Where/When

Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the Where/When app for iPhone and iPad handles your information. Where/When is made by an independent developer, referred to here as “we.”

The short version

  • The app has no accounts or sign-in, and no advertising, analytics, or tracking code.
  • The places you save go to the calendar you choose, not to us.
  • We don’t operate servers that receive your location or your events.

Location

Where/When uses your location when you save a place. If you turn on check-in reminders, it also uses your location in the background to notice when you arrive somewhere new.

To name a place, the app sends its coordinates to Apple Maps, which returns nearby place names and addresses. Apple handles those requests under the Apple Privacy Policy.

To decide whether to suggest a check-in, the app keeps a small record on your device of the area you are in and when you arrived. That record is not sent anywhere.

Calendar

Each save creates an event in the calendar you choose. The event contains the place name, address, map pin, an Apple Maps link, the time, and any note you add. If that calendar syncs through iCloud, Google, Microsoft Exchange, or another provider, the event syncs with it under that provider’s terms.

Where/When only needs permission to add events. If you choose a specific calendar, it asks for full Calendar access so it can list your calendars. It does not read your existing events.

Notifications

Check-in reminders are notifications scheduled on your device. Their content stays on your device.

Siri, Shortcuts, and Control Center

These save a place the same way the app does. Siri requests are processed by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy.

Diagnostics

The app does not include analytics or crash-reporting code. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may provide us with anonymized crash reports and usage statistics.

Keeping and deleting your information

Saved places live in your calendar; delete them there like any other event. Deleting the app removes its settings and reminder data from your device. You can change Location, Calendar, and notification permissions at any time in Settings.

Children

Where/When is not directed to children under 13, and the app does not collect personal information from its users.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. This policy is effective as of September 27, 2026.
